Premier League clubs continue their record-breaking spending spree this summer, with clubs collectively having spent £3.46bn (approx ₹38,042 crore) on new signings.
The record comfortably beats the previous record of £3.14bn set last summer. The new record was set on deadline day when Manchester City spent £60m on Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye. Manchester City then went on to break the record again when they signed Enzo Fernandez for £125m.
Premier League clubs collectively spent a record £3.46bn on new signings this summer, surpassing last year’s £3.14bn record. Manchester City was the biggest spender at £458m, including their £125m signing of Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea.
Deadline day saw clubs collectively spend £475m on new arrivals, compared to £391m on the final day of the summer window last year.
Manchester City lead £458m spending spree
Manchester City were the biggest spenders of the window, shelling out £458m on new signings.
Their record-breaking moves include:
- Enzo Fernandez – £125m – Chelsea to Manchester City
- Elliot Anderson – £116m – Nottingham Forest to Manchester City
- Iliman Ndiaye – £60m – Everton to Manchester City
Manchester City generated around £304m in revenues from player sales, which helped cushion their record £458m spending spree.
Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham make major moves
Chelsea were also big spenders in the summer window, with around £349m spent on new arrivals.
They signed Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for around £117m, but generated around £382m in revenues from players sold, which meant they made a reported £33m profit on their spending.
Liverpool made one of the most expensive signings of the summer in Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain.
While the deal is initially worth £106m, it could potentially rise to £123m depending on add-ons in the deal.
Tottenham were also big spenders in the summer, with the club spending around £302m on new signings during the window.
Premier League dominate world’s biggest transfers
The record-breaking deals have had an impact on the list of the most expensive football transfers of all-time.
Three of the ten most expensive transfers in the history of football happened this summer, and four of the five most expensive transfers in Premier League history were completed in the summer window.

Ipswich make £171m statement
Newly promoted Ipswich Town made a record-breaking £171m spending spree to get promoted back to the Premier League.
Their spending was higher than Manchester United’s £148m, and even better than the likes of Barcelona, AC Milan, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.
Ipswich’s record-breaking spending spree serves as a reminder that the Premier League is the big business of world football, with even new clubs getting into the spending race.
11 clubs broke transfer records
It wasn’t just the usual big six spenders breaking records. In fact, eleven clubs broke their own transfer spending records during the window, with six clubs doing it on more than one occasion.
Coventry City were the most successful record-breakers, breaking their record four times before finally spending £23.1m to sign Caleb Yirenkyi, their most expensive player ever.
With £3.46bn spent overall, record-breaking transfer fees across the board pushing up prices, and record-breaking revenues from the sales, the latest record-breaking summer spending window serves as a reminder that the Premier League is the global leader in top-flight football.
