The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has emerged politically stronger in Punjab ahead of the next Assembly elections after sweeping the state’s urban local body polls. The results have allowed the party leadership to project the victory as a public endorsement of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s governance model and welfare-focused politics.

AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal said the results showed that voters had backed the party’s “politics of work” and rejected what he repeatedly termed the “ED Party” — a reference to the BJP over Enforcement Directorate actions in Punjab. He alleged that traders and small businessmen across the state had responded strongly against repeated raids and pressure tactics.

Warning traders about possible future ED action, Kejriwal claimed that more raids could take place in the coming days and asserted that the Punjab government would stand firmly with the business community. He also said the BJP should be “completely driven out of Punjab.”

Sharing a video on X after the results, Kejriwal said the party had not only dominated the municipal corporation and municipal council polls, but had also performed strongly in the recently concluded rural local body elections for panchayats, panchayat samitis and zila parishads. He said the latest results proved that AAP had now established itself as a strong political force in Punjab’s urban centres as well.

“I want to wholeheartedly congratulate and thank the people of Punjab for placing such immense trust in the Aam Aadmi Party and in the work being done by the party,” Kejriwal said.

He also targeted the BJP over ED raids conducted against traders and businessmen in the state, claiming the civic poll verdict reflected public anger against such actions.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann described the results as yet another endorsement of the AAP government’s governance model. He highlighted that the party had now won successive Assembly, Lok Sabha, panchayat and urban local body elections in the state.

“Even if the combined votes of all opposition parties, including Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal and the BJP, are added together, they still do not match the Aam Aadmi Party. The BJP has slipped to the fifth position,” Mann said in a post on X.

The chief minister credited the victory to welfare measures such as free electricity, Aam Aadmi Clinics, government schools and transparent job recruitment. He also assured equal development for all cities, towns and villages in Punjab.

AAP Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia also said the results reflected people’s approval of the Mann government’s work and rejection of “politics of fear, hatred and betrayal.” He claimed that more than 1,100 BJP candidates had forfeited their security deposits in the elections.

“This is not just an electoral victory. It is a clear message from the people of Punjab that they will not stand with politics of betrayal and deceit. They will stand with honesty and with politics focused on work,” Sisodia said.
