Samrat Choudhary is a step away from making history before he takes oath as Bihar’s first BJP chief minister on April 15.
There are many reasons why the BJP, which is now focusing on young blood, picked Choudhary as the ideal candidate to lead Bihar as the state goes into “saffron” mode after at least two decades of JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar’s reign.
But Nitish Kumar may just be the most significant reason of all because as per BJP sources, Choudhary’s selection is a “reflection of continuity” since he has worked as the former chief minister’s deputy.
The sources told News18 that another reason why he made the cut was because he held meaty meaty and crucial portfolios like the finance and home departments. This, they said, shows his experience as the portfolio of the state home minister is vital and was earlier exclusively with Nitish.
Elaborating on the BJP’s focus on young leaders, especially with 45-year-old Nitin Nabin as its national president, the sources said 57-year-old Choudhary is a young leader and, therefore, promotion of youngsters to top posts gets a boost. He has also held various positions in the organisation, including state unit chief and has vast administrative experience due to which he can coordinate better between government and party, which will be important in the coming times.
