Air India Phuket-Delhi Pilot’s Confirmatory Dope Test Reportedly Positive For Marijuana, Sources Say
Air India faces fresh scrutiny after sources said the confirmatory dope test of the pilot-in-command of its August 4 Phuket-Delhi flight tested positive for marijuana. The pilot’s initial screening was “non-negative” after the aircraft suddenly lost around 300 feet during cruise, leaving 17 people hospitalised. Both pilots have been removed from flying duties pending investigation. The AAIB is probing the serious incident, while authorities are examining weather, pilot response, possible aircraft damage and the decision to continue to Delhi. DGCA is also considering stricter dope-testing requirements and tougher action for repeat violations.
