Why is PewDiePie ending his YouTube vlogs? The touching reason behind the end of his family series
PewDiePie has announced that his monthly YouTube vlogs will end in September 2026 after nearly four years. The decision is largely driven by his desire to let his son, Björn, grow up away from the internet and choose for himself whether he wants to appear online in the future. While the vlogs are ending, Felix and Marzia said they may still occasionally share family moments through social media.

For nearly four years, PewDiePie’s monthly vlogs have offered fans a rare look into a quieter chapter of his life. What began as a way to document his move to Japan gradually evolved into a family-centered series featuring his wife Marzia and their young son, Björn. Now, that chapter is coming to an end.In a new vlog covering April and May 2026, the long-time YouTube creator said the series will wrap up in September. The announcement came as a surprise to many viewers, but the decision comes amid a growing concern among many parents navigating life in the digital age: giving children the freedom to grow up away from the spotlight.

PewDiePie explains his son Björn played a role in the decision

The latest vlog was in a familiar format. Felix Kjellberg went on a trip around Japan, joined fellow creator Connor “CDawgVA” for a charity bike ride, and spent time with family in Osaka. Björn was always present throughout the video, which eventually resulted in a difficult decision for the family.Near the end of the vlog, PewDiePie addressed viewers directly.“I have somewhat bad news. Me and Marzia announced on our blog post already that we have decided… that we are going to end the vlogs in September.” The accompanying post on The Kjellberg Mail provided more context. As Björn approaches his third birthday in July, Felix and Marzia believe it is time to create more distance between their son’s childhood and their online audience.“But now Björn is turning 3 in July, and we’ve decided that we’ll be ending the vlogs in September. I wanted to share this now so it doesn’t come as a surprise. The main reason is that we want Björn to grow up outside of the internet and enjoy life on his own terms. If one day he wants to be part of my videos, I would never stop him, but I think that choice should be his.”

PewDiePie vlogs may end, but fans will still see family updates

The announcement marks the end of a project that was never supposed to last this long. According to Felix, the original idea was simply to document the transition to life in Japan. The overwhelmingly positive reaction from viewers changed those plans.“We started them before moving to Japan, almost four years ago… And we thought we could just uh share what it’s like to transition to this new country. And that was it. Maybe one or two, you know, but the outpouring love, and support made us really, really want to continue doing the vlogs.”As Björn grows older, PewDiePie feels the decision about appearing online should eventually belong to him.“We feel like he’s so part of our lives that continuing the vlogs will mean that Björn will be part of the vlogs. I think we feel like it will just be too much part of my channel, Björn will just be too much part of my, uh, sort of thing. If he wants to be part of the… that should be his choice later.”The family does not plan to disappear entirely. In their blog post, they noted that occasional moments may still be shared through social media. For now, however, PewDiePie is choosing privacy over content, allowing his son to grow up without a camera documenting every step. In an era when many creators increasingly feature their children online, the move stands out as a deliberate effort to put that choice in Björn’s hands when he is old enough to make it himself.
