A photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar at the wedding reception of Pawar’s granddaughter Revati Sule has triggered fresh political attention, coming at a time when the party’s positions on key issues before the Centre are under close watch.
The interaction assumes significance against the backdrop of the NCP (SP)’s opposition to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) amendment in its current form.
Party leader Supriya Sule has made the party’s position clear, even as Pawar and members of his family have continued to engage with the Prime Minister on issues concerning Maharashtra and matters of public interest.
The meeting also took place against growing speculation over the NCP (SP)’s likely stance on the Centre’s proposed delimitation exercise.
Not First PM Modi-Pawar Meet
The latest photograph is not the first recent interaction between Pawar and Modi. On July 22, Pawar and Sule met the Prime Minister in New Delhi after Pawar visited Jantar Mantar to back protesters raising concerns over students and examinations.
That meeting had also attracted political attention, particularly amid questions about Opposition unity and the NCP (SP)’s approach towards the BJP-led government.
During the July meeting, Pawar and Sule discussed several issues, including concerns surrounding the NEET paper leak, farmers’ problems, water management and education.
Pawar subsequently said Modi had assured them that concrete and positive action would be taken on the issues raised by them.

The NCP (SP) has maintained that its interactions with Modi are driven by matters affecting Maharashtra, constituency-level concerns and broader public-interest issues, and should not be interpreted as a shift in the party’s political positioning.
However, the repeated meetings have continued to attract scrutiny, particularly as the Centre’s proposed delimitation exercise remains a politically sensitive issue and the NCP (SP)’s position on it is being closely followed.
NCP (SP)’s Stance On Delimitation Bill
According to media reports, the Sharad Pawar-led party may be open to backing the proposal if certain conditions were met, a position that could potentially differ from that of some other INDIA bloc partners.
Sule, however, has said the party will take a final call only after the government places the actual legislation before Parliament.
She has also indicated that the NCP (SP) may be receptive to an arrangement that increases the total strength of the Lok Sabha by 50% uniformly across states, provided the mechanism for implementing such an expansion is clearly defined.
The party has maintained that its position will be discussed with other INDIA bloc constituents after the delimitation Bill is formally introduced.
Against this backdrop, the appearance of Pawar and Modi together at a family celebration has inevitably generated political discussion. The photograph itself does not signal any change in the NCP (SP)’s stated political alignment, but its timing has given the moment added significance in Maharashtra’s evolving political landscape.
