A major political and humanitarian controversy is emerging after the devastating Nepal-Tibet flash floods that swept through communities along the border. The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) has issued a statement describing the disaster as a catastrophe, saying the Lhende River flood caused widespread destruction in Kyirong in Tibet and Rasuwa in Nepal. The CTA says homes and settlements were swept away and that the full scale of the casualties remains unclear.According to the CTA, Chinese authorities reported three deaths and 558 people missing or unaccounted for in Tibet, including around 260 foreign nationals, although the administration says detailed information remains unclear. The disaster has devastated key infrastructure on both sides of the border, with bridges, roads, settlements and hydropower facilities damaged or destroyed. The flood surged from the Lhende River into Nepal’s Rasuwa district before continuing through the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems. -newsn18oc_indian18oc_politicsCNN-News18 is your trusted source for breaking news, updates, and in-depth analysis from around the world.
