Actor R Madhavan and filmmaker Vishal Furia are coming together for an untitled horror feature film, bringing two of the most trusted names in the genre under one roof.
There are very few actors who can move between genres, languages and audiences as effortlessly as Madhavan. From winning hearts as the boy next door in ‘Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein’ and ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ to delivering memorable performances in ‘3 Idiots’, ‘Vikram Vedha’, ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’ and, more recently, the blockbuster ‘Dhurandhar’, Madhavan has built a career that only a few can match. But when it comes to horror, his name holds an even more special place. ’13B’ gave Indian audiences a new kind of fear, one that crept in through the everyday, and it has since become a cult classic. Years later, he sent chills down the spine of audiences once again with ‘Shaitaan’, reminding everyone why he remains one of the most powerful presences the genre has seen.
Vishal Furia, meanwhile, has carved a niche for himself in the horror space. Starting with the critically acclaimed Marathi film ‘Lapachhapi’, Furia went on to build the ‘Chhorii’ universe and recently delivered ‘Maa’, interestingly which also featured Madhavan in a surprise cameo. Known for horror that is rooted, emotional and unsettling, Furia will complete a decade in the film industry in 2027, and this film marks a big step forward in that journey.
For Furia, there was never any doubt about who would lead the film. “Madhavan sir was always my first and only choice. I’m stoked that he has come on board and has already started getting into the world of the film. He is the true OG horror star of the cult classic Indian horror ’13B’ – one of my favourite films of all times. His conviction, his experience and his understanding of serious horror are very rare, and I couldn’t think of anyone better for this film,” he said.
Speaking about what audiences can expect when the two come together, he added, “Madhavan sir has years of experience as a writer, director and producer, so it’s really special to have him with us on this film. Together, we want to create something audiences have never seen before in Indian horror – the kind of fear they will feel in their bones! (smiles)”
The film will be produced by Rohit Ranjan under his banner, Frostlit Production Limited.
