Mohan Yadav said the BJP’s vote share in Datia had increased compared to previous elections and maintained that the seat had traditionally been a Congress stronghold.

Mohan Yadav said the BJP’s vote share in Datia had increased compared to previous elections and maintained that the seat had traditionally been a Congress stronghold.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday expressed confidence that the BJP will win the Datia Assembly seat in the 2028 Madhya Pradesh elections, despite the party’s recent bypoll defeat.

Speaking at the News18 Diamond States Summit, Yadav said the BJP’s vote share in Datia had increased compared to previous elections and maintained that the seat had traditionally been a Congress stronghold.

“Datia was already a Congress seat, wasn’t it? It was not a seat that the BJP had won earlier. However, it is true that in our democratic system, we have continued to increase our vote share. This time, we received around 1,700 more votes,” Yadav said while responding to questions about the bypoll result.

The Chief Minister admitted that the BJP wanted to win the seat but accepted the people’s mandate.

“We certainly wanted to win that seat. But in a democracy, whatever decision the people take is right. I am confident that in the 2028 Assembly elections, the BJP will definitely return to power,” he said.

The Congress retained the Datia Assembly seat in the bypoll, with its candidate Ghanshyam Singh defeating BJP’s Ashutosh Tiwari by 6,016 votes.

Singh secured 66,757 votes, while Tiwari received 60,741 votes. Azad Samaj Party candidate Damodar Yadav finished third with 22,527 votes.

The BJP fielded Ashutosh Tiwari in place of six-time MLA Narottam Mishra, a prominent BJP leader from Datia. The decision to deny a ticket to Mishra triggered protests among his supporters in his home district.

CM Yadav said Madhya Pradesh has emerged as one of the leading investment destinations in India due to sustained efforts in infrastructure development, industrial growth and investor outreach.

The CM highlighted the state government’s initiatives to attract investments through improved road connectivity, industrial development, regional industries and the Global Investors Summit.

“Over the past year, through continuous efforts to attract investment within the country, strengthening roads and infrastructure, promoting industrial development, regional industries and organising the Global Investors Summit, Madhya Pradesh has become one of the leading destinations for investment,” Yadav said.

The Chief Minister said he was proud of the state’s economic progress and claimed that Madhya Pradesh is among the fastest-growing states with one of the lowest unemployment rates.

“It is a matter of pride for Madhya Pradesh that we are becoming one of the fastest-growing states and one of the states with the lowest unemployment. Our development is not limited to a single sector; we are moving forward comprehensively across all areas,” he said.

Highlighting the state’s agriculture sector, Yadav said Madhya Pradesh continues to focus on expanding irrigation capacity to support farmers and improve agricultural productivity.
