Brazil confirmed their place at the top of Group C in the FIFA World Cup 2026 with a convincing 3-0 victory over Scotland at Hard Rock Stadium. Vinícius Júnior starred with two first-half goals before Matheus Cunha added another after the break, while Neymar Jr. marked his return to international football after nearly three years with an encouraging cameo.

Brazil Beat Scotland

Brazil defeated Scotland 3-0 at Hard Rock Stadium to finish top of FIFA World Cup 2026 Group C, with Vinícius Júnior scoring twice and Neymar Jr. making his return after a 981-day absence.

Vinícius Leads Brazil’s Dominant Display

Needing only a victory to finish as Group C winners, Brazil wasted no time taking charge. Vinícius Júnior opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a composed finish, putting Scotland under immediate pressure.

The Real Madrid forward struck again in first-half stoppage time (45+3′) to double Brazil’s advantage before the interval. Scotland struggled to deal with Brazil’s attacking movement and spent long periods defending against relentless pressure.

Matheus Cunha completed the scoring in the 60th minute, putting the result beyond doubt and ensuring Brazil progressed to the Round of 16 as group winners.

Brazil Control the Contest From Start to Finish

Carlo Ancelotti’s side dictated the pace throughout the match with impressive control in midfield and sharp attacking combinations. Vinícius, Rodrygo and their teammates consistently created openings, while Scotland found very few chances to threaten the Brazilian defence.

Brazil maintained possession for much of the game and comfortably managed proceedings as they secured the three points required to finish at the summit of the group standings.

Neymar Returns After 981 Days

The biggest talking point of the evening came in the 76th minute when Neymar Jr. returned to the Brazil national team after an absence of 981 days.

The 34-year-old made his first international appearance since October 2023, receiving a warm reception from supporters at Hard Rock Stadium. Fans erupted in celebration as the veteran forward stepped onto the pitch, highlighting his continued popularity with the Brazilian faithful.

Although he played only 14 minutes, Neymar quickly showed glimpses of the creativity that has defined his international career.

Positive Signs Ahead of the Knockout Stage

Neymar completed 12 of his 13 passes, registering a 92 per cent pass completion rate. He also created three chances, recorded one shot on target, made 24 touches and contributed one ball recovery during his brief appearance.

His movement and vision immediately added another dimension to Brazil’s attack, while his presence forced Scotland’s Ryan Christie into a booking after drawing a defensive foul.

The return also marked an important milestone following Neymar’s lengthy injury struggles and changes at club level over the past few years.

With maximum confidence after topping Group C, Brazil now move into the Round of 16, where they will face the second-placed team from Group F. Their potential opponents include the Netherlands, Japan or Sweden.
