India finished at fourth place in CWG 2026 Glasgow, Scotland, registering the lowest medal tally count in the last 24 years. After 10 days of competition, India secured 39 medals, including 13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze. This shameful performance marks the first time the nation has fallen below the 50-medal threshold since Kuala Lumpur in 1998. Having gloriously hit the 69-medal mark way back in the 2002 Manchester Games, the Glasgow debacle serves as a harsh reality check, completely shattering the illusion of steady multi-sport progress.

India secured fourth place at the CWG 2026 Glasgow with 39 medals (13 gold, 17 silver, 9 bronze), marking their lowest tally in 24 years and the first time falling below 50 medals since the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Games.

The 10th day painfully underscored this inertia, adding zero to the expected tally as Judoka Ishroop Narang choked near the podium, missing out on bronze in the women’s -78kg event after falling to Canada’s Coralie Godbout. Meanwhile, the track cycling campaign was a total embarrassment, failing to yield a single medal: Ronaldo Singh Laitonjam crawled to 20th in the men’s 1000m time trial, Dinesh Kumar choked in the men’s 40km points race qualifiers, and Harshveer Singh Sekhon whimpered out in his qualifying heat.

10 days of Commonwealth games 2026 are now over India secured 39 Medal, including 13 gold, 17 silver and 9 browns, falling below the 50-medal threshold for the first time since Kuala Lumpur in 1998. Having hit the 69-medal mark in the 2002 Manchester Games, the Glasgow Games mark India’s lowest tally in 24 years.

However, measuring Glasgow 2026 purely by the number of medals won does not show the true picture. The CWG 2026 campaign has been a tournament of adaptability, efficiency, and sporting growth for India.

10th day did not add to India’s expected medal tally. Judoka Ishroop Narang came closest but narrowly missed out on bronze in the women’s -78kg event after losing to Canada’s Coralie Godbout. India’s track cycling campaign didn’t achieved a medal, with Ronaldo Singh Laitonjam finishing 20th in the men’s 1000m time trial, Dinesh Kumar exiting the men’s 40km points race qualifiers and Harshveer Singh Sekhon bowing out in his qualifying heat.

Even with fewer sports to play, Indian athletes fought hard and kept India in the top four, just behind Australia, England, and Canada.

Boxing Heroes Dominate the Ring. The Indian boxing team was the biggest star of the tournament. They created history by winning 10 medals in total, which included an amazing seven gold medals and three silver medals. No other country won this many boxing golds in this tournament. Indian boxers like Sakshi Chaudhary, Preeti Pawar, Jaismine Lamboria, Arundhati Choudhary, Priya Ghanghas, Sachin Siwach, and Ankush Panghal all won gold medals after tough fights. Boxers like the famous Olympic star Lovlina Borgohain, Jadumani Singh, and Narender Berwal won silver medals after giving their best effort. The boxing ring became India’s gold mine during the final days of the event.

Asmita Dey became the first Indian judo champion by winning the women’s 48kg category. Just a few hours later, Harsh Singh won another gold medal in the men’s 60kg group. On the athletics track, Gulveer Singh became a hero by winning two individual medals at the same Games-a silver in the 10,000-metre race and a bronze in the 5,000-metre race. The famous javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra returned to the Games after missing the previous edition and won a silver medal with a great throw of 85.83 metres. Right behind him, Yashvir Singh won the bronze medal with his personal best throw.

Tejaswin Shankar also made history by becoming the first Indian to win a medal in the Decathlon event.
