The BJP on Sunday stepped up its attack on the INDIA bloc’s rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, questioning the Opposition’s turnout and accusing the alliance of turning the protest into a political spectacle.
In posts shared on social media, the BJP claimed that Rahul Gandhi was addressing a gathering with “empty chairs” and said the Congress had failed to fill the Ramlila Maidan to its stated capacity of 50,000.

BJP leader Pradeep Bhandari also took a dig at Congress and claimed that people were leaving the venue while Gandhi was speaking. The claims were accompanied by videos showing empty chairs and people moving away from the ground.
“Rahul Gandhi speaking and People leaving from Ramleela Ground! Flop show!” he wrote on X.

The INDIA bloc organised the rally as part of its campaign against the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Opposition parties have accused the poll panel of irregularities and are demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The Election Commission has rejected allegations of political bias and defended the electoral-roll revision process.
Addressing the gathering, Rahul Gandhi said the Opposition would continue to defend the Constitution. “We will not let the Constitution be destroyed. Whoever you are, however powerful you may be, you are not bigger than the Constitution. The Constitution is bigger than you,” he said.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also told the crowd that the INDIA bloc would continue its campaign until Gyanesh Kumar leaves office. Tejashwi Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav and other Opposition leaders also addressed the rally.
The BJP’s criticism came alongside a broader counter-campaign against the rally. BJP president JP Nadda accused the Opposition of attempting to create “anarchy” and disrupting business during the festive season, while the party also objected to the rally being held on the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
The rally followed Saturday’s symbolic “public impeachment” of Gyanesh Kumar by INDIA bloc leaders, a political protest that is separate from the formal constitutional process for removing a Chief Election Commissioner.
