Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal dialled West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday and extended his support ahead of voting for the Assembly Election in the state.

Voting for the 294-member West Bengal Legislative Assembly will take place in two phases, on April 23 and April 29. The counting of votes will take place on May 4.

In a post on ‘X’, Kejriwal affirmed his support to Mamata Banerjee, saying she is fighting “one of the most difficult battles”.

Just spoke to Mamta didi on phone. Expressed complete solidarity and support. She is fighting one of the most difficult battles, which is also one of the most important battles for Indian democracy. Modi ji will lose, inspite of misusing all institutions including CEC— Arvind Kejriwal (@ArvindKejriwal) April 22, 2026

“Just spoke to Mamta didi on phone. Expressed complete solidarity and support. She is fighting one of the most difficult battles, which is also one of the most important battles for Indian democracy. Modi ji will lose, inspite of misusing all institutions including CEC,” he said.

CEC Promises Free, Fair, And Transparent Polling

As West Bengal is set to undergo the first phase of polling tomorrow, April 23, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar assured the Election Commission of India (ECI) will take all the necessary steps to ensure the voting in Bengal is conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.

During a review meeting with election officials, CEC Kumar said the polls will conducted in a peaceful environment, adding the process must be free from fear, violence and intimidation.

The West Bengal Lok Bhavan launched a 24-hour helpline from Tuesday, urging people to use this service to lodge complaints related to the assembly elections in the state.
