Fresh political speculation erupted in Maharashtra after senior NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Jayant Patil and Maharashtra NCP president Sunil Tatkare reportedly met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis late on Tuesday night.
According to sources, Patil, a close aide of NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, met Fadnavis, while Tatkare, who belongs to the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction, also held a meeting with the chief minister.
Sources further claimed that Tatkare and Patil were together during the interaction, though this has not been officially confirmed yet.
Details of the meeting, including the issues discussed, have not been disclosed by any of the leaders involved.
Meeting Sparks Speculation
The development has triggered fresh discussions in Maharashtra’s political circles, with speculation ranging from a possible reunion of NCP factions to the possibility of political realignment. However, there has been no official indication from either side about any change in political equations.
The meeting comes at a time when the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) has been facing questions over its future political strategy. The party has been holding internal discussions with its elected representatives amid speculation about possible alliances and its next course of action.
Recent reports had suggested that the NCP (SP) was considering the possibility of a merger with the Congress. The party has also been assessing the views of its MLAs on various political options.
Recent Meetings Added To Buzz
The latest development follows a recent meeting between NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar and his party MLAs at Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s office inside Vidhan Bhavan. The interaction had fuelled speculation as Shinde’s Shiv Sena is part of the ruling Mahayuti alliance.
However, leaders from both the NCP (SP) and the ruling alliance later clarified that the meeting was incidental and should not be linked to any political shift.
Meanwhile, reports have also claimed that Jayant Patil had discussed with NCP (SP) MLAs the possibility of joining the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Hindustan Times reported that Patil sought to address concerns among legislators and build consensus, though no final decision has been announced.
Details of the meeting between Jayant Patil and Sunil Tatkare with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have not been disclosed. The meeting has sparked speculation about a possible reunion of NCP factions or political realignment.
