Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday ordered an inquiry into the land holdings linked to former Chief Minister and BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao and his family, including land surrounding KCR’s farmhouse in Erravalli.
Speaking in the Telangana Assembly during a discussion on the state’s prohibited properties under Section 22-A, Reddy alleged that KCR and members of his extended family collectively hold around 439 acres of land across the state. He questioned how the family acquired the properties and said the government would verify the ownership and revenue records.
Reddy also made a sharp political attack on KCR, alleging that his family had benefited from government and assigned lands. The allegations were made during the Assembly debate and are subject to verification through official land records and the inquiry ordered by the government.
“KCR has looted what was given by the Nizam. Who is he? Where is he from? From which village did he come? He came from Bihar and looted Telangana,” Reddy said.
The Chief Minister referred to the Agriculture Ceiling Act while questioning the extent of the family’s agricultural land holdings. He said that, under the law, a husband, wife and unmarried children are treated as one family unit for determining the ceiling on agricultural land holdings.
Reddy claimed that KCR and his wife Shoba together hold around 67.5 acres in Siddipet, while BRS working president K T Rama Rao, his wife Shailima, daughter Alekya and son Himanshu collectively hold around 123 acres.
He also cited alleged land holdings linked to other members of the extended family, including former minister T Harish Rao and K Kavitha. According to figures presented by Reddy, the combined land holdings of the family and its associates amount to around 439 acres across multiple districts. Other reports have put the figure at nearly 440 acres.
“How did they earn so much land? What business did they do?” Reddy asked in the Assembly.
KCR Farmhouse Land Under Scanner
Reddy separately raised questions over the land surrounding KCR’s farmhouse at Erravalli in Siddipet district.
He claimed that the farmhouse and surrounding area involve several hundred acres and directed revenue officials to verify the ownership and status of the land.
The Chief Minister referred to records relating to Survey No. 305 and alleged discrepancies involving government and assigned land. He questioned whether government land had been brought under private occupation and said the matter needed to be established through an official inquiry.
Reddy directed the Collector and revenue officials to issue notices to KCR and conduct a detailed survey of the land surrounding the farmhouse.
According to reports, the Chief Minister has sought a report on the land holdings and directed officials to complete the inquiry within 30 days.
Reddy said that if the inquiry establishes that government or assigned land is under unauthorised occupation, the government would take steps to recover it in accordance with the law.
He also said the government intended to distribute recovered excess land among poor and marginalised families, including Dalit families who had earlier protested near KCR’s farmhouse.
‘Purification’ Row
The Chief Minister also referred to the recent controversy surrounding an alleged “purification ritual” near KCR’s farmhouse.
The controversy erupted after Congress workers and Dalit activists protested near the farmhouse on September 8. BRS supporters were subsequently accused of carrying out a ritual involving turmeric water on the road used by the protesters. The incident has triggered a separate political row, with the Telangana Police registering cases against several BRS supporters.
Reddy has previously ordered an investigation into the incidents surrounding the protest and the alleged purification ritual.
The latest inquiry into KCR’s family land holdings comes amid an ongoing political confrontation between the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS over land records, the Section 22-A prohibited properties list and allegations of irregularities in land transfers.
The ownership details and allegations raised by the Chief Minister are yet to be established through the government’s proposed inquiry and verification of official land records.
