Indus Waters Row: India Rejects Hague Court’s Jurisdiction, Says Treaty Suspension Will Continue
India has firmly rejected the Permanent Court of Arbitration’s latest position on the Indus Waters Treaty, saying the Hague-based body has no jurisdiction over India’s sovereign decisions. The court said the treaty remains in force and questioned India’s suspension of the agreement. New Delhi, however, says the treaty remains in abeyance following the Pahalgam terror attack and will stay suspended until Pakistan takes verifiable action against cross-border terrorism. The dispute also involves Pakistan’s objections to India’s Kishenganga and Ratle hydroelectric projects and competing mechanisms for resolving technical disagreements.
