Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Oath Ceremony Live Updates: Actor-turned-politician Vijay will take oath as chief minister of Tamil Nadu today after days of uncertainty over government formation. He will be sworn in as the CM at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium. The Governor has also directed him to prove his majority on or before May 13.
Vijay, whose Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam had emerged as the single-largest party with 108 seats, clinched the support of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), taking the tally to 120 in the 234-member Assembly.
Shortly after receiving letters of support from Congress, CPI, CPI(M), VCK and IUML, Vijay met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at Lok Bhavan, where he was formally invited to form the government.
This would be the first time in the history of Tamil Nadu in nearly six decades that a non-DMK and non-AIADMK government will seize power.
