AIADMK supremo Palaniswami’s (Left) tweet has got Vijay supporters excited.
The high-stakes Tamil Nadu power tussle turned even more interesting on Saturday as AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami’s congratulatory message sparked fresh political chatter over a possible understanding between Vijay’s TVK and the VCK.
“In the recently concluded 17th Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election, candidates from various political parties contested and emerged victorious. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the party forming the government in Tamil Nadu,” EPS posted on X.
The carefully worded message has triggered intense speculation in political circles, as it comes at a time when TVK chief Vijay, whose party stunned the Dravidian duopoly in the Tamil Nadu elections by sweeping 107 seats, is locked in a desperate race to prove majority support before Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar.

What has made the tweet politically explosive is the timing. For days, the big question in Tamil Nadu has been whether the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) would finally back Vijay and help him cross the crucial 118-mark in the 234-member Assembly.
Vijay’s TVK had emerged as the single-largest party, but remained short of the majority mark. Congress support pushed the tally higher, while CPI and CPM later extended backing to prevent what Left leaders called a “proxy BJP regime”.
The suspense now centres on VCK’s final move, which the party says will be announced by 4pm.
Political observers now believe EPS’s “party forming the government” remark may be the clearest indication yet that the AIADMK believes Vijay has already secured the support required.
Adding to the intrigue, an AIADMK MP earlier dropped a bombshell claim saying “my leader will become CM”, fuelling theories that the opposition camp too was actively exploring last-minute equations. At the same time, anti-DMK forces appeared increasingly united in ensuring that the post-poll deadlock does not end in President’s Rule.
With Vijay making multiple visits to Raj Bhavan, the Governor insisting on proof of majority, and smaller parties holding the key to power, Tamil Nadu’s cliff-hanger has now posed one crucial question—is it finally nearing its conclusion?
