BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad accused the opposition of using street protests as a political tool following electoral setbacks, as demonstrations continued in Delhi on Saturday.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday criticised the ongoing protests in Delhi, accusing opposition parties of turning street demonstrations into a political weapon after facing electoral setbacks.
Commenting on the protests in the national capital, Prasad said the recent electoral results had shown that people had rejected attempts to push the country towards disorder. He argued that political issues should be addressed through Parliament rather than street protests.
“You have weaponised street protests because of your defeat,” Prasad said.
Prasad also referred to the political developments over the past three days, alleging that opposition leaders had attempted to create an atmosphere of instability. He said the recent electoral results had demonstrated that the people had rejected such an approach.
The BJP leader further criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, alleging that he had been trying to spread disorder over the past three days.
Targeting the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), Prasad said, “CJP is the shadow of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP); they are doing a little politics for AAP.”
He also referred to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s participation in the protests, saying that she too had joined the political mobilisation in Delhi.
Prasad’s remarks came as Delhi witnessed heightened security arrangements and detentions in connection with the CJP’s protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Several political leaders and protesters were detained at different locations as authorities enforced restrictions around central Delhi.
The opposition has criticised the restrictions and detentions, while authorities have maintained that the security measures are intended to manage the situation and maintain law and order in the capital.
